INDIGENOUS RUNNER COMPLETES SIX MAJOR MARATHONS
A Western Arrente and Yamatji man has become the first Indigenous Australian to complete all six of the world’s major marathons.
Charlie Maher completed the set by finishing the London Marathon on Sunday.
He said he’s motivated to run to make an impact on his community and family.
“Running’s always been a part of me, it always will be, and it’s changed my life for the better,” he said.
“I just love making an impact on other people; that’s super important to me.”
Maher was one of the first four Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander runners to take place in the Indigenous Marathon Project when he ran in New York in 2010.
Since then, 118 additional First Nations people have been part of the project.
