HOW A DETERMINED STUDENT OVERCAME CHALLENGES TO ACHIEVE HER GOALS
In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, Tracey Blanket, a dedicated worker and passionate advocate for Indigenous mentorship, graduated with a Certificate IV in Leadership and Mentoring on Friday the 6th of September.
Her journey, marked by significant personal and professional obstacles, serves as an inspiring example for others in her community and beyond.
‘‘very proud of myself being an older student. I didn't think that I could do this but come out with flying colours and enjoyed it as I went. It was very rewarding”.
Tracey has been working in the mining industry for 16 years; She faced considerable challenges balancing her studies with demands of shift work as a train driver with irregular hours that could start as early as 1:00 AM or end as late as 10:00 PM, finding time to study was a formidable task.
Despite these difficulties, Tracey’s commitment to her education and career development never wavered.
The Certificate IV in Leadership and Mentoring is a pivotal qualification that Tracey pursued to empower Indigenous individuals entering the workforce. “I wanted to learn how to mentor our Indigenous people coming up and starting their jobs,” she explained.
“I want to help them not only within work but also in their lives outside of work, to enjoy what they do and strive for their goals.”
