GROG BAN EXTENDED
The Pilbara community of Wakathuni is to remain a dry for another year.
Chairman Brendan Cook said they were due to meet Liquor Licensing representatives soon to extend the two-year grog ban, but had cancelled the meeting as they had several funerals to organise.
Mr Cook said Liquor Licensing then decided extend the ban for a further 12 months.
“Our lore and culture is important,” he said. “The only way to preserve it is to have our community still dry. If they want to drink, go and live in town. Or you still can live in the community but drink in town.”
Community members can easily access alcohol, as Wakathuni is about 28 kilometres from Tom Price by road.
