GREENS PROMISE $51 MILLION FOR NATIVE TITLE GROUPS

The Greens say they would establish a $51 million fund for Native Title holders who needed to defend their country in the Native Title Tribunal, according to Mulgana woman and Durack candidate Bianca McNeair.

Ms McNeair said current arrangements made it difficult to defend Native Title land against parties such as miners and prospectors who wanted to disturb law grounds and dreaming sites.

"Having to go back through Aboriginal protocols as well as meet those is a very difficult task,” she said.

“Especially when you are overloaded with not only your community development issues, but also you're learning about Native Title and learning about how you can use this for the benefit of your people,.

"But at the same time, you're having to protect your back and watch for these big corporations that are wanting to steamroll Native Title holders into missing out on those deadlines and not being able to address those complaints and legal battles.

Ms McNeair said they would raise the money with an extra tax on billionaires’ profits if they were elected to Parliament.
