The state government has approved land allocations for development by four companies in the Pilbara’s Maitland Strategic Industrial Area.

In the area south of Dampier Port, land has been allocated for Fortescue Future Industries, Yara International, Hexagon, and Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers.

In an announcement, the state government said the Maitland Estate would become a hub for hydrogen and ammonia production and generate renewable power.

The proponents have been advised to fulfill their obligations under the Burrup and Maitland Industrial Estates Agreement (BMIEA) and to commence discussions with the Registered Native Title Body Corporate, Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation (NAC).

"Land allocated in the Maitland SIA will enable a range of projects, including ammonia, hydrogen and renewable energy, which will aim to decarbonise emissions on the Burrup Peninsula,” said State Development Minister Roger Cook.

"This is exciting news for the Pilbara, and in particular for Karratha and Dampier, as these projects will create a pipeline of local jobs for years to come.

"Through this process, the McGowan government is prompting early and ongoing engagement with Traditional Owners through the Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation as the recognised custodians of the land."
