FLIGHT BOY’S INTENTIONS 'UNCLEAR'

WA Corrective Services Commissioner Mike Reynolds.

After his officers restrained a teenage detainee en route from Perth to Broome and had the flight turn back, Corrective Services commissioner Mike Reynolds said he had been nowhere near the pilot.

Mr Reynolds said the 17-year-old gave no indication of his intentions before the incident.

“He just decided to jump out of his chair and move forward,” he said. “He’d been very compliant and well-behaved prior to that incident.”

Mr Reynolds said his officers had made a safety assessment of the boy beforehand and there was no indication there would be any trouble.

He is still before the courts for allegedly leading a car chase through Broome earlier this week.
