FIRST PEOPLES VOICES SOUGHT ON CLIMATE IMPACTS

First Nations people have been invited to share their views in a survey on the impacts of climate change.

Oxfam Australia’s First Peoples Climate Survey seeks to discover how Indigenous communities are being affected by the climate crisis.

Oxfam’s Dr Paul Cleary says the results so far point to a range of impacts.

“Overwhelmingly, people are telling us it is getting hotter, they are getting exposed to more warm weather events and they have had their housing damaged,” he said.

“[They’re telling us] that their housing in particular is not fit for purpose for dealing with these impacts, and that’s a really big one we’re looking to get government to address.”
