CITY OF KARRATHA FUNDING SUPPORTS NGAARDA NEWS PILOT
Ngaarda Media received $25,000 from the Karratha Biannual Community Grant Scheme last year to purchase new computers, a camera, recorders and filming equipment.
The support from the City of Karratha has enabled our volunteers to use the recorders outside of the studio to interview people for their radio programming.
Ngaarda Media’s Tissa Clarke hosts the Sunday radio program called ‘Slice of Heaven. She plays music from New Zealand, shares Maori language, and interviews Maori talent too.
“I am learning new skills in radio. It’s not as easy as some may think. You need to learn the technical aspect of the radio desk, writing scripts, interviewing skills, and operating software like adobe audition.
‘I’m thrilled that I get to take the zoom mic home so I can gather interviews during the week. The Ngaarda media team is always there for technical advice and I look forward to presenting my radio show each week.”
Ngaarda Media is the only indigenous radio station that broadcasts a 5-minute news bulletin state-wide through First Nations Media.
Recently, Ngaarda Media launched a TV news pilot from the Roebourne studio using green screen backgrounds to present the weather in the Yindjbiarndi language including local sport and current affairs. We invested in a new camera, wireless mics, and a teleprompter to help with the project.
As an essential service to First Nation listeners. This funding has supported our volunteers and staff to cover several events on the same day as we now have extra equipment to send out with our reporters.
As a host for Roebourne Regional Prison, we now have extra computers and recorders to train inmates that want to learn about radio broadcasting.
Thank you, City of Karratha for recognising our service and supporting us.
We are currently looking for funding to build a video production studio. Contact Tangiora Hinaki to find out how you can be involved with this amazing opportunity. thinaki@ngaardamedia.com.au
