A Community Foot Patrol Program in Carnarvon is helping to keep at-risk youth out of trouble, take them to safe places, and give them food as needed.

Carnarvon Chamber of Commerce President Paul Dixon is helping to oversee the project and said the foot patrol’s objectives were to assist vulnerable youth.

“Our objective is to engage with some young people that are having to wander around the streets,” he said.

“We are making sure they are taken to a place of safety, given a feed if they need a feed, or even taken to other projects or facilities.”

The program is a joint effort between the Aboriginal Biodiversity Conservation Foundation and the Carnarvon Shire, but Mr Dixon says the larger community is getting involved.

“Along with the community bus run by the Carnarvon Shire, we work very much in conjunction with each other,” he said.

“One of the local service station provides some food for us.

“There’s lots of people that are getting involved to hopefully get this sorted a little bit.”
