Buwarri Hub has opened its doors in Roebourne for children and parents to promote Yindjibarndi art, and culture but also to preserve their language.
The Hub was founded by the Cheedy family and named after Late Elder Mayaariinyj Bangu
It was inaugurated by the community elders with the display of artwork by Indigenous peoples of the country.
Yindjibarndi Elder Jane Cheedy says its an art place where parents can bring their children to teach a bit of culture and keep the Yindjibarndi language alive.
Ms Cheedy said her mother Bigali was the force behind the scenes and with the help of her niece Tenellia
“The Hub is open for children and any other interested adults out there in the community if they want to come along and learn about Yindjibarndi culture and history,”
Tony Simpson, Chief Executive Officer Regional Development Australia Pilgrim office said he loves the idea of the community doing things for the community and expects more funding to come towards such initiatives
“We're coming together to help and support the community to provide a facility and what this is really about is cultural awareness cultural training but also giving back and sharing that culture.”
