BOBBI LOCKYER LAUNCHES ABORIGINAL BEDWARE IN WOOLWORTHS

It’s been a stellar start to the year for Award-winning Ngarluma, Kariyarra, Nyulnyul, and Yawuru artist Bobbi Lockyer. As well as sweeping multiple awards in European Capital cities, she’s recently collaborated with Woolworths to create a line of Indigenous themed Bed Ware.

The designs being sold at Woolworths are named ‘‘Seashells’’ and ‘‘Saltwater’’ and take their name from Kariyarra and Yawuru Country, respectively.

The designs reflect not only the diversity of Bobbi’s culture but also her role as a mother.

“Seashells is about the coral and shells found along the coast of Kariyarra Country and shows the intricate patterns and designs as well as telling a story of my children and I spending time at the beach,” she says.

“Saltwater is based on the coast of Yawuru country and the incredible ocean ecosystem.”

AWARD-WINNING ICON

Earlier this year, Bobi flew to London as a nominee for 5 Women Changing The World Awards.

The Women Changing the World Awards are global awards program that recognises the success of female change-makers in business, sustainability, leadership, health, education, product development, innovation, and technology.

Bobbi won three of the awards, including “Entrepreneur of the Year 2023.”

“The experience going to London and Paris was incredible although freezing cold for this Pilbara girl’ she said.

“My favorite part was that I met a lot of incredible businesswomen and mums who are doing amazing things in these spaces”.

FIRST NATIONS PILBARA GIRL

It’s clear that Bobbi’s art is deeply connected to her mob, language group, and her heritage. She may be an Inspiration to other First Nations Girls, but’s clear her mob inspires her.

“My biggest driving force behind everything I do is for my children and my community and believing I can help make a difference,” she says.

What does the future hold? Bobbi is coy about what her next project will be, but we’re told it will relate to NAIDOC, so watch this space.

“I’ve got something huge in the works for NAIDOC,” she says.

“But you’ll have to stay tuned.”
