ROWAN WALKS TO GIVE PEOPLE HOPE
In the Pilbara, people are preparing for the annual Rowan’s Walk from Port Hedland to South Hedland to encourage people with mental health issues to open up and seek help.
It was started by a teenage boy, who is now 20, after a family tragedy.
His mother Ravena Maher said Rowan’s intention is to remind people that their lives are precious and worth fighting for.
“Only you know what you're going through, so it's only you that can reach out nice for that help,” Ms Maher said.
“[Rowan’s] trying to let people know that it's okay not to be okay. And that yes, today is tough, but it's hope that will bring better days.”
This year’s walk will be on October 8, and everyone is welcome to join Rowan on his walk from 6am at Red Bank Salt Ridge.
For the first time, it will be followed by a basketball tournament and teams of all ages are invited to participate.
Basketball teams wanting to play may contact patricia@YIC.com.au
