Yindjibarndi Elder Nanna Berry Malcolm, also known as Nanna Mara, was recently the subject of a portrait that made it to the finals of the famous Archibald Prize.

The Archibald is the most prestigious art prize in Australia.

South Australian artist Tsering Hannaford visited Roebourne to paint the portait.

"I [felt] very privileged to have been invited on this trip and it made me really happy to to be able to share Nanna Mara’s stories, on a larger scale with the Archibald prize,” she said.

Ms Hannaford said she enjoyed “learning about Nanna Mara’s connection with everybody in the community and how much she's so respected.”

“The care that she has for everybody really impacted me the most, and her connection to Country, and just what a beautiful person she is.”
