YINDJIBARNDI GRAPHIC BOOK LAUNCH
Juluwarlu Aboriginal Corporation has launched its first graphic Novel, when the world was soft. The book, targeted for the next generation of children, aims to pass down knowledge and history through artwork and storytelling.
The story authored by Lorraine Coppin, CEO, Juluwarlu covers topics such as Yindjibarndi’s religion and the beginning stories about creation. Lorraine discussed “It’s important when we showcase or tell Yindjibarndi stories, that we go back to the beginnings”.
The Artwork illustrated, engaged and combined other projects from Juluwarlu, such as, mixed generations which is the ‘sharing of stories’ through the elders' artwork. Lorraine Coppin said "We develop many programs through our archive, not only book publications but exhibitions, performances, collaborations and more. 'When the World Was Soft' marks a new format for us. We wanted to create something that would resonate with children and young people, especially our Yindjibarndi mongurla (young people)"
