A Western Australian First Nations digital mapping company held workshops at a language conference in Darwin last week.

The PULiiMA conference focused on using technology to preserve Indigneous languages and culture.

The Company Winyama led sessions on how First Nations groups can use digital mapping technologies.

Winyama Operations Manager and Ballardong Noongar woman Kass Boladeras said digital maps had many uses for Indigenous people.

“They’re really helpful in mapping special sacred landmarks,” she said.

“A lot of communities use it for Native Title claims.

“Ranger groups use it for fire burning and mapping changes in the environment.”
