In the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, Warburton Police held an impromptu barbecue for the community on Monday.

Locals were unable to buy food when the town’s roadhouse and shops closed for the Labour Day public holiday.

Warburton Police Senior Sergeant Don Couper said he worked with the local roadhouse to get supplies for the barbecue on the day.

“People in communities tend to live day to day as far as getting food,” he said.

“So we worked with the managers at the Warburton roadhouse and got together a box of sausages, supplied some more meat ourselves and a couple of boxes of bread, and we held a barbecue at about 2 pm for the community of Warburton.

“We reckon we probably had 160 at least, maybe up to 200 people attend just to get a feed.”
