UPURLI UPURLI NGURATJA GRANTED NATIVE TITLE
A Goldfields Native Title claim was successfully determined this week after a three-year process.
The Upurli Upurli Nguratja people have been granted Native Title over an area of almost 27,000 square kilometres.
There are around 170 mining tenements in the claim area.
Upurli Upurli woman Debbie Carmody said her people were happy following the determination hearing on Tuesday at Cundelee.
“The claim is actually one of the largest in the Central Desert region, with 49 apical ancestors, and I can say there was quite a lot of people there, and we were all quietly happy,” she said.
