TIME TO APPLY FOR POSTAL VOTES
People enrolled to vote in North West Central can cast an early vote from this coming Wednesday if they are in Perth or Carnarvon.
There will also be ordinary polling booths open at 15 locations on election day, September 17, and postal voting will also be available for people who can’t get to a booth.
However WA Electoral commissioner Robert Kennedy urged people who needed a postal vote to apply as soon as possible by phone or online, so his staff could send a ballot paper through the mail.
“They fill it out, they then have to mail that back to us,” he said. “We then have to check them off the roll and then we can organise for ballot papers to be sent out for them in the post and they then need to be posted back to us. So as you can see that can potentially take a couple of weeks in terms of the mail services in North West Central. So if you are thinking about a postal vote then you’d want to get onto it pretty quickly.”
Applications can be made by calling 136 306 or vising elections.wa.gov.au .
