THREE FIRST NATIONS SISTERS JOIN THE PILBARA REGIMENT
BY ASAD KHAN AND ANDREW SHARPS
Three Yindjibarndi sisters from the Pilbara who enlisted in the Pilbara Regiment on the same day completed their first two weeks as soldiers in the Australian Army.
One of the Sisters, Deana said “It's just something that we've always thought about for a long time, but just never really did it until last year.”
“I was like to my sisters. Come on, let's go and see what these guys do and went over and had a chat and found out and were like, oh, yeah, we can do this. So yeah, it was like we were definitely gonna go in and get some more information because we were ready to join,” she said.
Eldest sister Cassandra said she was hearing the Regiment speech at the FeNaClNG, and the more they spoke, the more inclined she felt towards joining the Army.
“It’s something I wanted to do as well,” she said.
