Last week, the state government announced the Target 120 program would be rolled out in Derby with the help of the Emama Nguda Aboriginal Corporation.

The Target 120 program aims to assist at-risk youth aged 10-14 years of age before they get in serious trouble with the law.

Emama Nguda Aboriginal Corporation Operations Services Manager Ben Burton said the program’s rollout in Derby will include making many services and facilities available, including the establishment of a hostel for at-youth risk.

“So the hostel will operate as a boarding school but also have a smaller function as a bit of a safe house,” he said.

“Parents will actually sign the kids in, knowing they’ll remain in town, part of the community.”
