Noongar woman, Megan Krakouer is renowned as an Activist for Aboriginal people across the nation.

Her work in suicide prevention and being the voice for the voiceless got her nominated for the National NAIDOC Person Award this year, and she became a finalist in the category.

For the NAIDOC Ball in Perth at the weekend, Ms. Krakouer wore a dress that stood out from the crowd.

She called it an ‘activist dress’ which depicted bold red lettering on a black background. She said that she wanted to carry the voices of silence with her.

“What I wanted to do with this dress is basically show that we're not invisible,” she said.

“This was a powerful way to get this across to the people who may not be aware of the issues.”

She said she wore the dress as a badge of honour for the people she cares about.

”We need to keep fighting for the people, and we need to ensure that their lived experiences and their voices are being centred.”
