‘STOMPERS’ RULE?

Gary Slee with his new book.

Society is now dominated by the kind of people that would once have been banished or even killed by small nomadic groups, according to Karratha identity Gary Slee.

He has published a book called “Stompers” in which he explains the theory he first developed while giving free rock art tours of the Burrup Peninsula, Murujuga.

“One night of the week we’d do a public seminar and I’d do a very quick PowerPoint presentation on the psychology of the corporate mind set: why don’t they care?” he said. “The big end of town would just come and big business really tried to develop the Burrup without any consideration for the local Aboriginal people or the local community so that sort of triggered it off. There was a lot of politics around in those days.”
