STOMPEM GROUND IS BACK

Stompem Ground is back!

After a 22 year recess, popular Aboriginal music festival Stompem Ground is returning to Broome.

Kimberley Stolen Generations chairman Mark Bin Bakar said it would mark the 21st anniversary of his organisation’s foundation and the 25th anniversary of the Bringing Them Home report.

Mr Bin Bakar said they had found a headline act to sing “the time has come”.

“It’s Midnight Oil,” he said. “Midnight Oil has put their hat in the ring and said: ‘look, we want to be part of this’ and so they’re the feature act to Stompem Ground.”

“We were going to plan a relaunch of the idea of Stompem Ground festival because it takes a lot of time and money and stuff like that. But we decided to postpone the actual launch of the re-establishment of Stompem Ground due to Covid. Everything’s unpredictable and we need the numbers at the gate to help pay for the event.”

Stompem Ground will be at Broome’s McMahon oval on September 17.
