ST JOHN'S KARRATHA PROVIDES TRAINING TO VOLUNTEERS TO HELP CLOSE THE GAP

St John sub centre in Karratha has begun putting its volunteers through practical training with local organisations.
Local paramedic Shannan Bradley said that engaging with Aboriginal corporations allows them to prepare volunteers for emergency situations.
“Basically we are trying to make it so that everything a little bit more realistic,” she said.
'“Creating situations that could happen in real life and preparing volunteers for it.”
St John Karratha aims to provide more culturally sensitive care to the communities of the area.
Ms. Bradley said St John is creating a ‘Mob helps Mob’ scheme that allows First Nations to help and assist with care.
“We are really keen to see First Nations people integrated into our organisation,” she said.
“Hopefully to bring mob in as ambulances officers and provide a structured career progression.”
