SPOTLIGHT ON THE FIFO LIFESTYLE

A Nyul Nyul woman from Broome spent some years as a mine worker where she came to the conclusion that FIFO stands for “Fit In or F**k Off”. 

That is the title of a play she has written, Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company and Goolarri Media presented on stage in Perth and Broome in 2020.

“Because of COVID it couldn’t really go anywhere,” she said. “But we continued on and it showed for 14 days down in Perth and each show was sold out. The numbers were limited and because it has always been a Broome story and up in the Kimberley, Yirra Yaakin and Goolari said ‘we’ll bring it to Broome’. And they had sell out performances here in Broome as well.”

The script is now available to schools and community groups.
