SONGS FOR FREEDOM RETURNS HOME TO ROEBOURNE

Workshops are underway in Ieramagadu/Roebourne in the lead up to the Songs for Freedom concert that will take place on Saturday.

In recent weeks, the show has been on tour in the Eastern States, with performances in Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney.

Walmajarri elder and blues singer Kankawa Nagarra has been on tour with Roebourne locals and other musicians.

“Some of the highlights for me were just being in the company of wonderful people: people who were very interested in music and singing and telling their stories to wherever we visited,” she said.

On Tuesday night in Roebourne, Dr Shellie Morris led a singing workshop at the Ngurin Cultural Centre.

Dr Morris said she’d been working with the Roebourne community over the last ten years.

“I love the landscape, and I love the people here,” she said.

“I feel really proud to be a part of this show.”
