SOBER MARTU MAN REFUSED PUB ENTRY
GEOFF VIVIAN
In the Pilbara, a Martu man who does not drink was refused admission to one of Newman’s two pubs last week.
He said he had intended to deposit $50 into his TAB account there, but just inside the door a woman tapped him on the shoulder and told him not to come in.
“'I was told: ‘you can’t go in there, we had three incidents today’,” he said. “I told her: ‘I just want to deposit the money and walk out’. She told me not to come. Not to go inside. So I walked out and I told her: ‘this town is getting racist’.”
The Newman Hotel, also known as the Purple Pub, has been contacted for comment.
