SHE’S A NEW CURTIN DEAN
A Yinjibarndi woman has become the first Aboriginal Dean of Indigenous Futures at Curtin University’s Education Faculty.
Ms Downing, who is related to the Lockyer family, said they were always seeking opportunities to better engage Aboriginal students.
“We believe that if you’ve got engagement from not only staff but also our students, community, and industry we’ll have students that are far more engaged, better retention for our students and better outcomes, she said. “Also, better opportunities for employment when they finish their study and leave their university.”
Westernized processes can be a bit challenging.
She said after ten years of work it’s something that she’s found herself in after looking for something to do in her holidays as a music teacher. “Time really flies when you’re having fun.
