The Salvation Army plans to provide continued assistance to those impacted by recent flooding in the Kimberley.

Salvation Army Chaplain Major Pam Marshall said the Salvos hoped to partner with local businesses to provide furniture and appliances for those who lost property in the floods.

Major Marshall spent two weeks in Broome last month.

“We were helping to administer some support through vouchers to be able to go and purchase food,” she said.

“I saw some interesting sights and listened to some incredible stories that really were quite heartbreaking.”

She said some flood victims she spoke to were experiencing homelessness and domestic violence because of a loss of community.

“When you experience that loss of community, your world begins to crash,” she said.

Listen to Major Marshall speak about her flood relief work and the Jabaja Cooking program offered by the Salvation Army in Karratha.
