SALTY MONKEY: A COMMUNITY-DRIVEN CONSERVATION BRAND
Salty Monkey began as a passion project that combined a love for the ocean, culture, and community. "We started off just capturing our adventures across the Torres Strait islands... sharing a bit of our culture," says the founder Dennis Fay. This organic storytelling on social media built a dedicated community, leading to the launch of a business selling apparel in collaboration with local Indigenous artists.
Now, Salty Monkey is making waves with its environmental initiatives, like the Marine Debris Task Force, in partnership with the Torres Strait Island Regional Council. "We’re working on taking care of the environment, our ocean," Dennis Fay explains. By incorporating modern technology, such as drones and AI, they tackle the debris problem in innovative ways.
The brand aims to turn waste into valuable resources and community projects, raising awareness and bringing positive changes. For instance, they are exploring ways to repurpose marine debris into art and even usable fuel. As Salty Monkey continues to grow, it strives to make a meaningful impact on both the community and the environment.
