ROEBOURNE STATUE KNOCKED DOWN

In the Pilbara, a statue at the top of Roebourne’s Mount Welcome has been knocked down for a second time and is laying on its side.

The statue, representing the Mardudhunera language group, is one of seven at the lookout.

In a separate incident earlier this year, three of the statues including the Mardudhena man were torn down in an act of vandalism.

Roebourne man Jason Munda faced Karratha Magistrate Court yesterday, where he pled guilty to a charge of criminal damage and was fined $1000 in relation to the earlier incident, according to the ABC.

Yesterday, the Roebourne police were informed about the new damage.

“Police have gone up and conducted investigations looking at the statutes, into what’s happened and we’re going to be conducting further inquiries from here,” said Sergeant Lee.
