Some home owners in the City of Karratha will find their rates bill has fallen since last year, whereas others will be paying considerably more.

Mayor Peter Long said the Valuer General had reviewed the values of all properties in greater Karratha this year.

As a result he said values in Roebourne, Wickham and Point Samson had fallen a bit while the Gross Rental Value for homes in Damper had more than doubled.

“In Point Samson the average increase in GRV is 31 per cent but we’re interested in the average for the whole city,” he said. “And the average for the whole city is around 60 per cent and therefore everyone whose increase is less than that, their rate their rates will actually go down. So for Point Samson their rates are going to go down 20 per cent.”

The City of Karratha has budgeted to increase its rates revenue by 3 per cent.
