ROEBOURNE PRISON AIR-CON TENDER PROCESS UNDERWAY

Some inmates at Roebourne Regional Prison are sweltering through another summer without air-conditioning in their cells.

The government announced in November 2022 funding of $10 million to install air-conditioning in every cell of the prison.

At that time, it said the installation would take place in the 2023-2024 financial year.

The Department of Justice told Ngaarda Media on Monday:

"The tender process for the installation of air-conditioning in the main accommodation units at Roebourne Regional Prison is in progress."

The Department did not respond to Ngaarda Media's query on an expected completion date for the project.

Temperatures in Roebourne have regularly exceeded 40 degrees Celsius during recent months.
