ROEBOURNE HEALTH CENTRE WINS AWARD YET BANS TRADITIONAL OWNERS

In the Pilbara, an award-winning Aboriginal medical centre has banned community members from receiving vaccinations or seeing doctors, according to the Australian.

The Australian reports that Mawarnkarra Health in Roebourne banned Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people from receiving treatment due to various conflicts.

Ngarluma woman Kylie Mowarin was banned after criticising the Mawarnkarra board on Facebook and had to travel to Broome to receive Covid vaccinations.

Ngaarda Media staff members were banned after reporting on the death of an unattended dialysis patient.

Mawarnkarra GP Seema Basil won doctor of the year at the WA Rural Health Excellence Awards in October.
