RODEO MURAL TO FEATURE MULLEWA LOCAL LEGEND

Jacob ‘Shakey’ Butler is painting a mural on the side of a truck for the Mullewa Rodeo and Muster, featuring a depiction of local Wajarri man Stewart Mongoo.

In the Mid West town of Mullewa, a local retired stockman has been depicted in a mural to be displayed at this weekend’s Mullewa Rodeo and Muster.

Wajarri man Stewart Mongoo has attended the Mullewa Rodeo each year over the nine years it has been running.

WA artist Jacob Butler, also known as Shakey, was commissioned to paint a mural for this year’s rodeo, and said Mr Mongoo’s face stood out to him when he looked through photos from past events.

“His face just struck a chord,” Mr Butler said.

“He’s got that real Aussie iconic face that I just love and I always try to paint.”

The mural, which also includes other rodeo scenes, will be completed at Saturday’s event.

Mr Mongoo said he was looking forward to seeing “bull-riding, horse-riding, buck-jumping” and “meeting some of the families and friends” at the rodeo.
