In the Pilbara, approximately 80 Save Our Songlines supporters staged a March for Country to protest at the expansion of the natural gas industry at Murujuga, the Burrup Peninsula yesterday.

Yinjibarndi and Ngarluma woman Kaylene Daniel said she had attended protests at Murujuga since they started and this was the biggest so far.

“This is why we protest, to try to protect the country,” she said. “I’ve been doing this nearly all my life. My family has seen the impact and they have to leave the rock art where it is. Leave the Ngurra as is. No more industry.”

The protest followed presentations at a United Nations forum in Geneva by custodians Josie Alec and Raelene Cooper last week.
