PILBARA ELDERS AND LEADERS DISCUSS CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE

This week in Port Hedland, community members gathered along with federal and state government representatives to discuss the role of First Nations people in the renewable energy transition.
Elders and community leaders gathered at the First Nations Clean Energy Network’s Pilbara round table consultation to provide input to shape government policy.
Djaru descendant, energy consultant, and First Nations Clean Energy Network steering committee member Ruby Heard said resources companies were open to changing how they worked with Traditional Owners.
According to Ms Heard, one of the messages that came out of the consultations was: “We are seeing a difference in the way that these companies are approaching us about renewable energy than we have seen before in the way that they’ve come at us to talk about mining.”
