REMOTE COMMUNITIES REOPEN
The WA Government has lifted the lockdown on remote Aboriginal communities imposed two years ago as part of the State of Emergency measures to combat the COVID pandemic.
People living in communities close to townships, such as Kay Warrie who lives in Cheeditha community near Roebourne, said there were mixed feelings about opening up.
“I think some people are OK with it and some are still frightened now,” she said. “We’ve got some elders here … and some kids, mainly, who didn’t have their needles.”
Aboriginal communities are free to impose their own restrictions on visitors.
