REFERENDUM ROADSHOW PROMOTES ‘YES’ VOTE THROUGHOUT PILBARA

The Referendum Roadshow stopped in Karratha on Wednesday.

The Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation has been holding Referendum Roadshow information sessions throughout the Pilbara to promote a ‘Yes’ vote in the upcoming Voice to Parliament Referendum.

At a session in Karratha this week, Ngarluma Elder Kerry-Anne Churnside, former Labor candidate for Durack Jeremiah Riley, and Banjimah man Henry Lockyer answered questions and explained why they support the Voice.

Mr Lockyer told Ngaarda Media it was important for the community to understand the intention of the referendum.

“For me, I think if we can get a ‘Yes’ outcome from the referendum, it should hopefully lead to a lot of positive changes for our communities, and for the rest of the country too,” he said.

“We’ll start to see how, when our fellas get help and support and are able to be empowered, it has a positive impact on the rest of the country as well.”

On Tuesday, the roadshow will be in Tom Price.
