If you are going to the Mount Magnet Cup on Saturday and need to vote in the North West Central by-election, a polling booth will be set up for you right at the race track!

The WA Electoral Commission will have a Polling Team there between 11.30 am and 5.30 pm.

Electoral Commissioner Robert Kennedy said two events coinciding on September 17 presented an ideal opportunity to provide a ‘pop-up’ polling place.

“We’re very keen to chase votes and electors wherever they are,” Mr Kennedy said.

“When we got wired into the community in North West Central we found out about the Mount Magnet Race day and we were told there’ll be a significant number of people there.

“We will go where the electors are.”

Mr Kennedy said the polling booth would be right at the entrance to the grounds and he encouraged people to vote before they started punting.

“Given what I know of country race meetings, I think it’s probably a smarter thing for them to do on the way in than on the way out,” he said.

Early voting booths are also open at Carnarvon Woolshed and 111 St George’s Terrace in Perth.
