Thousands of protesters gathered in Boorloo/Perth on Thursday for the annual Invasion Day rally and march.

Chants of “Always was, always will be Aboriginal land” rang out as the crowd protested against the celebration of Australia Day on January 26.

Event organiser Megan Krakouer was one of many speakers who urged people to vote against the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

“People have come out in droves [at Invasion Day rallies] right across the nation and said ‘no’ to Voice,” she said.

“What is the Voice going to do for our grassroots people, our grim reality?”

Ballardong Noongar man and Deaths in Custody Watch Committee Chair Desmond Blurton burnt an Australian flag in front of the gathered crowd.

“To show our contempt against the oppression of our police state, we wish to burn this flag,” he announced from the stage.
