Hedland youth worker Ashley Dwyer has won the Pilbara Community Service excellence “Inspirational Young Person” award for his paid and voluntary work.

“The most rewarding thing about the work is seeing the smile on kids’ faces when you go out of your way and give them time,” he said. “It’s amazing to see.”

Mr Dwyer’s work includes an after school drop in program for children aged five to 12 and, and night time street work with young people aged 12 to 25.

Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal corporation’s Pilbara Community Service excellence awards were announced at a gala dinner at Newman on Saturday.
