PARTTJIMA 2025: UPCOMING 10TH ANNIVERSARY IN ALICE SPRINGS

BY ASAD KHAN

A Festival in Light is back for its 10th year, lighting up Alice Springs (Mparntwe) from 4–13 April with First Nations art and culture.

The free event will feature six major installations by over 20 Aboriginal artists, plus music, comedy, talks, and markets.

Set against the Tjoritja/MacDonnell Ranges, Parrtjima 2025 promises 10 nights of light, storytelling, and immersive experiences on Arrernte Country.

This year’s theme, ‘Timelessness,’ is reflected in new works, including Three Generations of Station Women by Molly Hunt, a tribute to Aboriginal stockwomen with a soundtrack by Mark Coles Smith.

She said Our stories have always been here, and they’ll continue long after us. This is a way to honour that strength.

“East Kimberley gives you a deep understanding of, you know, country, community, and lifestyle.

“The way I approach my art is always with a connected theme of empowering and celebrating black women.

“And coming from a strong matriarchal family,  it's what I know and what I know is how to tell that story that embodies, you know, intergenerational strength,”
