DUNCAN TOOMBS: FROM THE VOICE TO COUNTRY MUSIC SUCCESS
BY KARLEY REDFERN
Duncan Toombs, who rose to fame on The Voice last year, has become a recognised name in Australian country music. Known for his genuine and relatable songs, Duncan’s music reflects his life, his family, and the stories he's gathered over the years. He’s a newcomer to songwriting, having spent over 30 years playing guitar behind artists like Adam Harvey, Beccy Cole, and Lee Kernaghan. But in recent years, he’s stepped up to share his own stories through his songs.
When asked about where he finds inspiration, Duncan said, "I think I built up enough stories from playing guitar for so many artists. I thought, why not have a go at writing my own songs?" It’s clear his passion for his craft has only grown as he’s begun to step into the spotlight as a solo artist.
His debut album, Steel on Steel, earned him two Golden Guitars, and it’s been streamed over a million times. Duncan reflects, "It's incredible when people listen to your music and sing your words back to you. That connection is what makes it all worth it."
Duncan’s also known for his time on The Voice in 2024. He joined Team Leanne and had a great experience with fellow contestants Tori and Brad Butcher. “I did The Voice to show my boys that if a door opens in life, you’ve got to be brave enough to walk through it," Duncan shared. "It's about leading by example."
Looking forward, Duncan has plans for new music. "I've got a few songs ready to record, and I’m eager to get them out there this year," he said. He’s also been busy with live shows, including a sold-out concert at the Capitol Theatre.
You can follow Duncan on social media—he's on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok—and check out his website, duncantoombs.com.au, for updates.
When asked if he had a song to share, Duncan didn’t hesitate: "I’ve got one. It’s early, but I’ll give it a go."
His performance was a hit, and we can expect more of his heartfelt music soon. Keep an eye out for his upcoming singles, and if you’re lucky, you might catch him live at a show near you.
