NOONGAR ACTIVIST MEGAN KRAKOUER BACKS 'YES' VOTE ON VOICE
BY GERARD MAZZA
Mineng Noongar activist Megan Krakouer has announced she will now support a ‘Yes’ vote in the Voice to Parliament referendum.
Ms Krakouer, who is a Director of the National Suicide Prevention and Trauma Recovery Project, had previously been a high-profile ‘progressive No’ campaigner.
Ms Krakouer said a well-implemented Voice to Parliament could represent people who often go unheard.
“It’s been a really long and difficult process to get where I have,” Ms Krakouer said.
“The main reason [I’ve changed my mind] is because I don’t want to see any more of our people dying. I don’t want to see parents burying children. I don’t want to see Department of Child Protection in the lives of our First Nations people without giving them a fair go and providing support.”
