NO RENTAL VACANCIES IN THE PILBARA

The McGowan Government is considering new restrictions on short-term accommodation services like Airbnb, to improve access to rentals as renters struggle to secure a property.

There is “no rental vacancy” in the Pilbara according to Pilbara Real Estate Director and Licensee Rob Sleator.

Mr Sleator is doubtful a policy like this will have any impact on the region.

“Airbnb up here, there’s only like two or three houses, that’s it, so they change the laws on that, there’s no difference up here,” he said.

“But our vacancies have been under 1% again for about 6 years, it’s been like this for a while so we’re at that level now where prices are really starting to hurt.

“We need to make more incentives for investors.”
