NGARLUMA STUDENT SHORTLISTED FOR INDONESIAN LANGUAGE AWARD
Ngarluma Wesley College student, Romy Churnside has been shortlisted for a National Australia Indonesia language Award.
Romy told Ngaarda Media that he entered the competition because his friend had entered it last year.
“It was a really good way to learn the language and get motivated to do it and improve my skills, “ he said.
When I first started learning Indonesian it was really difficult. I wasn’t the best at it but my teachers were very enthusiastic and the way they teach is absolutely amazing.”
The theme for this years NAILA awards is ‘Travel’ and Mr Churnside can be seen and heard speaking in Indonesian about Aboriginal culture.
“I’m really talking about Aboriginal culture and promoting it - and showing how special it is. In that audience is the Indonesian people because I don’t think they would have had the experience of learning about Aboriginal culture.”
