In Roebourne, a local art group is crowdfunding to pay for vital operational expenses.

Wangaba Roebourne Art Group Operations Manager Christina Goodman said the group has more than 100 members from the local community.

“We are the Ngarluma art group, Ngarluma being the traditional owners of this area,” Ms Goodman said.

“That being said, we are the only Indigenous art group that is open to any artist in the area.”

She said the group required urgent funding because negotiations with a major benefactor had stalled.

Manager Linda Rowlands said Wangaba was an important part of Roebourne.

“Without our artists having somewhere to be free to express themselves, to tell their stories and their history, we would be at a great loss I believe,” Ms Rowlands said.

“The area would lose the stories, the culture and the history that is Ngarluma.

“And it’s not just the Ngarluma history to this area, it’s also the combined history of everybody that is here on this country.”
