NEW REPORT WARNS OF CLIMATE EXTREMES

A new report by the CSIRO and Bureau of Meteorology says worsening climate change impacts are being felt across Australia.

The ‘State of the Climate 2022’ report shows an increase in extreme heat events, intense heavy rainfall, longer fire seasons and sea level rise.

CSIRO researcher Dr Pep Canadell said land in Australia had already warmed by almost 1.5 degrees.

He said the world should reduce carbon emissions to prevent further warming.

“Every decimal degree of temperature that we add to the system impacts get worse, and therefore by the same token, every decimal degree we can avoid having is something good for us and for the planet as well,” he said.
