Bunjulang woman Larissa Baldwin says it is disturbing that public servants can be jailed for up to 75 years for exposing wrongdoing within their departments.

Ms Baldwin, who is CEO of the organisation GetUp, is launching a new film “The Cost” which she hopes will raise public awareness of whistleblowers, the risks they run and the sacrifices they make.

“And they are going out there and telling the public ‘hey, did you know these things are actually happening?’ and they are putting a lot of their freedom and safety on the line,” she said. “And often coming into odds with our Australian laws in order to expose things that are either illegal or are doing an injustice and a disservice to our democracy.”

“The Cost: Whistleblowers in Australia” premiers on Tuesday, October 11 with a panel discussion by The Chaser's Julian Morrow, whistleblowing experts, and Ms Baldwin.
